Close-up of skin in the Florida sun
Miami

Living well with the Florida sun.

In Miami the sun isn’t a season. It’s a climate. Our UV index sits in the “very high” range most of the year, including days that feel mild. Living well here doesn’t mean hiding from the light; it means dressing for it.

Start with what you wear. Sun-protective clothing is the most reliable sunscreen there is: a UPF 50+ garment blocks 98% of UV and never needs reapplying, which is exactly why our own Kristin Z. Haushalter, MD, co-founded BelaSol, the sun-protective clothing line made for lives lived outside.

Then sunscreen for what clothing doesn’t cover: broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher on face, ears, neck and hands every morning, reapplied every two hours outdoors and after swimming. Most people apply a quarter of what they need, so be generous.

Add a wide brim, sunglasses, shade in the hardest hours, and an annual skin check, and the Florida sun becomes what it should be: something you get to enjoy for a lifetime.

“Play in it, don’t lay in it.”
